Abstract: | Essential drugs are a key approach to ill-health treatment. It could improve our health and secure development gains by increasing access to essential drugs and their rational use. This idea was introduced to accelerate the positive health impacts of drugs, in particular for developing countries. Irrational prescriptions have been reported to have an effect on the health and economy of individuals and the community leading to a waste of resources and broad health risks. Whilst many processes such as inventory control, billing, and procurement of medicinal products are computerized, both the healthcare system and patients in Palestine have been faced with problems. In order to recognize issues and root causes and propose solutions, this research is planned and review and evaluate drug prescription trends at selected Palestinian health centers in accordance with the measures of core drug use under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO) and "International Network of Rational Drug Uses (INRUD). The study aims to assess the drug prescribing process in Ramallah and Al-Bireh’s Primary Health Care (PHC ( & Al-Makassed Islamic Charitable Society Hospital by using the prescribing indicators (PIs) which are part of the WHO/INRUD core drug use indicators. This study deals with Drug Use Patterns in Selected Palestinian Healthcare facilities in West Bank. V The research methodology of this study is based on quantitative data collected using a prescribing indicator form developed by the WHO using a random sampling method WHO / INRUD recommendations for the assessment of drug use in health institutions include the average number of outpatients prescribing metrics per session, the percentage of drugs prescribed by generic name, the percentage of antibiotic prescribers, the percentage of prescriptions for injections and the proportion of Essential Drug List (EDL). The WHO five drug PIs have been measured and shown in two Palestinian facilities. In Ramallah and Al-Bireh's PHC the percentage of drugs prescribed by generic name and the percentage of drugs prescribed from EDL were determined with100% at the optimal standard of WHO. While the average number of drugs per medical prescription is 2.38 which exceeded the ideal WHO standard. The percentage of encounters with antibiotics is 71.29% which surpassed the ideal metric of WHO which is expand from (20.0 % - 26.8%). The indicator is the percentage of encounters with an injection is 34.79% higher than the WHO average standard. At Al-Makassed Islamic Charitable Society Hospital, the indicator that reveals the percentage of drugs prescribed from EDL is at the optimal rate of WHO with 100%. The results showed the average number of drugs per prescription encounter 3.44 that's greater than that announced by the WHO standard. The percentage of medicines prescribed with a genetic name is 88.87% while the average of WHO that 100%. The results showed that the proportion of encounters prescription with antibiotics 7.31% is lower than the optimal. The VI overall injection prescribing ratio is 8.22% is less than the accepted reference value. That needs further studies to have a decision on the outcome of antibiotics and injections. The aim of this study was to understand the current practice of prescription in Palestinian healthcare facilities and to identify the optimal rate of prescription of drugs. This leads to awareness of the ideal rate and acceptable level of use of the drug. It provides advice on finding solutions that are based on WHO quality standards to ensure the optimal use of drugs. |
