Abstract: | This study aims at identifying the gender-linked differences in the use of linguistic forms among the television-stations reporters in Palestine. Men and women use language differently- women are perceived to be more sensitive and try their best not to hurt others' feelings, for that they use what is known as hedging devices. Men, on the contrary, do not use such devices much because they are more interested in transmitting information. This is one of the many other differences between m en's and women's language. This study is new and unique in Palestine for it sheds light on the language differences between Palestinian male and female reporters. The findings of the study reveal that reporters do have gender language differences. Knowledge of such differences will help women to improve their way of speaking, and thus the way they are perceived and treated. Awareness of such differences will help to effect better communication between men and women. |
