Abstract: | [Purpose] The purpose of this study was to elucidate the relationship between Y-balance test (YBT) distance and the lower-limb strength of Sport Science faculty Students at the Arab American University. [Subjects] Forty (40) collegiate student age (19.80 ± 1.26) years were recruited registered for the second semester 2022/2023 roster of the sport science department volunteered for this study.[Methods] The participants were tested by MMT (Manual Muscle Testing) tests maximal muscle strength of the lower limbs (hip flexion, hip extension, hip abduction, hip adduction, hip internal rotation, hip external rotation, knee flexion, knee extension, and ankle dosiflexion, ankle planterflexion) and YBT distances in the anterior, posteromedial, and posterolateral directions. The independent samples t-test was employed to compare the means between two groups, specifically males and females, in order to assess the differences and Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to quantify the linear relationships between YBT distances and lower-limb strength.[Results] Hip Extension were positively correlated with YBT anterior, Posteromedial, Poster-lateral distance, Hip Flexion and Hip Abduction were positively correlated with YBT anterior, Posteromedial distance, knee Flexion and Knee Extension strength were positively correlated with YBT anterior distance. [Conclusion] There was a weak correlation between lower-limb strength (hip flexion, hip extension, hip abduction and knee flexion, knee extension) and dynamic postural control as measured by the YBT. |
